Allow users to start Vender Daemon from the FlexNet webpage

Here is a solution to let a user start (or stop) Vender Daemon without have access to the “License Server” computer.

Sometimes “Vender Daemon” stops. To handle this you must log on to the server and press start in “Flexnet Publisher”. This can take time if your IT-administrator is away.

If a normal user try to do this from a client computer they will get this error.

Start by creating a new user for “Flexnet Publisher” on the server. An advantage is that the administrator does not have to give out the admin password to a user.

Logon as administrator, click on “User Configuration” and then click on “New”.

In “role” let the “Locally Managed Admin” stay as suggested.

“User Name” and “Password” must be filled in.

Click on “Save” and the user is created.

Go to “Services”. Press “WIN+R” and type services.msc.

Locate the service “lmadmin” and click on “Stop”.

Open “Explorer” and go to “C:\ProgramData\FLEXlm\lmadmin\conf”.

The file “server.xml” is here:

Open “server.xml” and locate this part.

stopServerAllowed="false"

stopServerRemoteAllowed="false"

Change false to true.

stopServerAllowed="true"

stopServerRemoteAllowed="true"

Save and close the file “server.xml”.

Start “lmadmin” in “Services”.

On a client computer. Refresh webpage and logon with the new user you created for “Flexnet Publisher”.

Click on “Vendor Daemon Configuration” and then click on “strusoft”.

Click on Start.

Now it is possible to start ”vendor daemon” from a client computer.
